Celebrating the talent on MISI

So here's blog attempt number 2..

I had a few ideas about this blog, my first was a 'how to' on making a box. I might do that next time but for now I have decided to show off some of the amazing talent of the gifted artists and crafters on MISI.
http://www.misi.co.uk/

MISI stands for 'Make it sell it' and hosts a variety of shops which sell handmade and vintage goods from different artists and crafters. There are so many creative people out there who deserve to be recognised.

The sad thing is that crafts and talent seem to go unrecognised these days in our 'throw away' society. The things that we buy in the shops are produced so cheaply and in abundance that consumers seem to begrudge paying out a fair price for something that wasn't mass produced.

Thanks to websites like MISI, there seems to be a new market and an appreciation for handmade goods.
It was a hard choice, but i have picked a handful of items which caught my eye. I'm sure you will like them too!

MY MISI TOP PICKS ARE......

This is my first ever blog and although I love writing, I am quite overwhelmed by it all.
I hope I don't bore you to tears with it, but If you do fall asleep halfway through, you'll know where to come the next time insomnia sets in.

I have been crafting since I was about 3 years old and able to hold my first tool, which was probably a pencil. I had limited expertise back then but it never stopped me from making homemade Christmas presents for everyone I could think of. Luckily I wasn't around to see their horrified faces on christmas morning when they opened my presents which would be something hideous like an empty plastic tub of ice-cream with foil badly wrapped around it and a bit of string to pull it along to put dolls in and take for a ride!

I didn't have much resources as a child but I did (and do to this day) treasure every last bit of paper I owned. I still have some from that era which is looking a bit yellow around the edges, but even now I can't bring myself to throw it away!

My dream was to one day go to Art College, but one thing led to another and things didn't quite go the way I had planned. I never gave up on crafting though and it hasn't given up on me.
My dream now is to turn it into a career. Only time will tell..

Thinking about all the things I have made or do as a hobby, the list is quite varied..here goes..

Bag Charms, Jewellery, Greeting Cards, Photography, Photo Album (just made my first one which I am quite proud of!) Paper covered boxes
(completely handmade using card from recycling cereal or other boxes, and covered with mandmade mulberry paper- these take quite a bit of work and look lovely when finished

I've also made a box of chocolates which was such a nice present and tasted yummy too. I make a mean cheesecake and chocolate chip cookies. If anyone wants a recipe feel free to ask.

I made a big cosy quilt for a wedding present which took me months as I'm not the best at sewing but it turned out really well and they were so touched with their handmade gift.

Speaking of weddings, I make a 'Honeymoon' box. A handmade box filled with naughty and nice presents inside. I've made about 4 and the happy couples have really enjoyed them!!!!

I think my biggest achievement has to be writing and illustrating a childrens book. it's about a little girl who falls asleep and goes on a journey as different animals across the world. It's finished and I am trying to get it published!! I have found a website called http://www.blurb.com where you can have your book made and sold via the website to the public. I am looking into it.

I love making all these things!!
If anyone is interested in a custom made item of any of the above let me know.
